In a previous session (Discover Islam at ISA Session 3: The Children of Israel in the Qur’an and their life in Muslim lands) we made a presentation on the prophets from the children of Isra’el mentioned in the Quran up to the birth of Jesus peace be upon him.

In this session we will present the events that preceded Jesus’s birth until his death as it is mentioned in the Qur’an

Discover how is Jesus represented in the Qu’ran.

What do Muslims think of Jesus.

Our fourth session in a new dialogue program, titled “Discover Islam” will be 7:00 pm Thursday, June 13, 2024 at Augusta’s First Islamic Center at 3416 Middleton Dr., Martinez, GA 30907.

The Islamic Society of Augusta invites our non-Muslim neighbors to join us in breaking the fast on Thursday March 21, 2024, at the First Islamic Center 3416 Middleton Rd., Martinez, GA 30907.

We will welcome our guests at 6:45 pm and the program will start at 7:00 pm.
There will be a short presentation titled “Ramadan, the month of the Qu’ran” (first time to be shown).
Breaking the fast & Sunset prayer at 7:40 pm.
The dinner will be served about 7:55 pm.
The program will be concluded at 9:00 pm.
The seats are limited, and reservations are required not later than March 14, 2024.

The Children of Israel are the children, and later descendants of Prophet Jacob (Isra’el). There are several verses in the Quran that inform us about the trials that Jacob and his descendants endured. The Qur’an also covers the story of Jacob’s grandfather Prophet Abraham and several prophets from his progeny.

Jews endured trials in the Christian lands, but they enjoyed safety and prosperity in the Muslim lands. This changed after the start of the Zionist movement, and the creation of the state Israel.

On March 28, 2023 ISA held the Annual “A Taste of Ramadan” Iftar.

This years program was well attended including several elected officials (including Augusta Mayor Garnett Johnson and Doug Duncan the Columbia County Commissioners Chairman), members of the Interfaith Fellowship of Augusta, the Women’s Interfaith Network and Muslim friends from the Muslim Community Center downtown Masjid.

In December 2015, the political rhetoric against Muslims was escalating. Dr. Larycia Hawkins, an African American political science professor at Wheaton College—a prestigious evangelical school outside of Chicago—wanted to show support for Muslim women. She posted a photo of herself in a hijab on Facebook. “I love my Muslim neighbor,” she wrote, “because she deserves love by virtue of her/his human dignity… we worship the same God.”

Within days, Wheaton’s Provost suspended Dr. Hawkins, eventually moving to terminate her tenure.

A Zoom meeting is scheduled to discuss the movie. The movie director Linda Midgett will join us.

Professor Mohammad Fadel from the University of Toronto a renowned expert about Islam and Democracy is our special guest speaker.

Mohammad H. Fadel is a graduate of Evans High School (1984) and is now a Professor of Law at the University of Toronto Faculty of Law, which he joined in January 2006. He wrote his Ph.D. dissertation on medieval Islamic law while at the University of Chicago. He received his JD from the University of Virginia School of Law in 1999, was admitted to the Bar of New York in 2000 and practiced law New York City between 2001-2005. Professor Fadel also served as a law clerk to the Honorable Paul V. Niemeyer of the United States Court of Appeals for the 4th Circuit and the Honorable Anthony A. Alaimo of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Georgia. Professor Fadel has published numerous articles in Islamic legal history and Islam and liberals
